Polyurethane elastomers as maxillofacial prosthetic materials.
A series of polyurethane elastomers based on an aliphatic diisocyanate and a polyether macroglycol was polymerized with various cross-link densities and OH/NCO ratios. Stoichiometries yielding between 8,600 and 12,900 gm/mole/crosslink and an OH/NCO ratio of 1.1 resulted in polymers with the low modulus, yet high strength and elongation necessary for maxillofacial applications.
متن کاملInfluence of Polyurethane Properties on Mechanical Performances of Magnetorheological Elastomers
Magnetorheological elastomers (MREs) are mainly composed of magnetizable particles and elastic polymer. The polymer matrix plays an important role in mechanical performances of MREs. In this study, the polyurethane (PU), which is synthesized by using toluene diisocyanate (TDI) and poly (propylene glycol) (PPG-220), is selected as a matrix because it has better degradation stability than natural...
متن کاملPreferential Nanoreinforcement of Thermoplastic Polyurethane Elastomers with Dispersed Nano-Clay
It is difficult for scientists to engineer elastomeric materials that are both strong and tough like spider dragline silk. Inspired by the morphology of spider dragline silk and motivated to develop strong, tough, elastomeric polyurethanes to be used in soldier applications I have prepared polyurethane/clay nanocomposites. Polymer/clay nanocomposites have exhibited great potential for providing...
متن کاملConformational Analysis of the Crystal Structure for MDI/ BDO Hard Segments of Polyurethane Elastomers
From conformational analysis, we have determined the two lowest energy crystal structures for the hard segments of 4,49-diphenylmethane diisocyanate/1,4butanediol (MDI/BDO)-based polyurethane elastomer. Both crystal forms give prominent X-ray scattering at ;7.6 Å. In one crystal form, (1), there is strong hydrogen bonding between linear chains with a density of 1.30 g/cm, while in the other for...
متن کاملMagnetically Tunable Vibration Transmissibility for Polyurethane Magnetic Elastomers
The effect of a weak magnetic field on vibration transmissibility was investigated for magnetic elastomers with various volume fractions of magnetic particles. Polyurethane elastomers without magnetic particles exhibited a natural frequency at 53 Hz and were insensitive to a magnetic field of 60 mT. The natural frequency for magnetic elastomers with a volume fraction of 0.23 was 115 Hz at 0 mT,...
